Three rules of thumb
- Applying through a government or big-company portal? Use Minimal ATS or Aurora. Older systems can mix up two-column layouts.
- Sending straight to a person, through a referral, email or a small company? Any template works, so choose the one that suits your field.
- Photo or no photo? Expected in much of Europe and Asia, but US, UK, Canadian and Australian employers often discard resumes with photos. Every template supports both.

Yes. Every template outputs real, selectable text in a standard reading order with conventional section names, so applicant tracking systems can parse it. Single-column templates like Minimal ATS and Aurora are the most conservative. The two-column templates (Technical and Bold) read correctly in most modern systems, but some older ones can mix the columns.
Are the templates free?+

Resume or CV: does the template change?+
The same templates work for both. In the US a resume is usually one to two pages. In the UK, Europe and much of Asia a CV can run a little longer, and in academia much longer. Heritage and Executive handle long documents best.
